KwaZulu-Natal- South Africa’s smallest province, renowned for its magnificent scenery including the soaring peaks of the majestic Drakensberg mountain ranges, wild-life, fascinating cultural diversity, sub-tropical beaches and historical towns, museums, memorials and authentic colonial architecture. The Battlefields area in the northern part of the province was the site of many of South Africa's most significant battles of the last 200 years During the Anglo Boer War, the Afrikaner nation successfully resisted the threat of British Imperial colonization in KwaZulu-Natal.
KwaZulu-Natal's National Reserves include the famous Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Reserve and the Greater St Lucia Wetlands. The white rhino was saved from extinction in these reserves and today the focus is on saving endangered black rhino- the largest concentration in the world.. The Greater St Lucia was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999. Lake St Lucia is the largest estaurine body of water in Southern Africa. |
